Climate Adaptation
Building resilient communities through evidence-based climate adaptation strategies and policy frameworks
Climate Adaptation in Southeast Asia
Mainland Southeast Asia—Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam—is on the frontline of climate change. Floods, droughts, salinization, and landslides are already undermining agriculture and rural livelihoods. In places like the Mekong Delta and upland provinces of northern Thailand, farming communities face recurrent disasters that erode land security and force difficult relocation choices.
HOPE SEA places particular focus on climate adaptation in the agricultural sector, where the impacts of climate change are felt most directly. Farmers are on the frontlines of climate disaster—facing flooded rice paddies, declining crop yields, and shifting growing seasons. Helping farmers adapt is therefore central to strengthening food security and reducing displacement risks in the region.
Our approach goes beyond short-term coping. We support forward-looking land-use planning, resilient agricultural systems, and participatory communication strategies that build trust between governments and communities. By combining scientific evidence with local knowledge, HOPE SEA develops context-specific adaptation policies that help farmers anticipate and withstand floods and other climate disasters while sustaining their livelihoods.
