Climate Displacement
Planned relocation, GIS-based tools, and risk communication innovations
Overview
Climate change is forcing many communities across Southeast Asia to relocate from their homes. HOPE SEA works on systematic planned relocation strategies, utilizing GIS-based tools and risk communication innovations to support affected communities and inform policy decisions.
Climate displacement is a complex issue encompassing human rights, economic security, and social justice dimensions. Our research focuses on developing risk assessment tools, identifying vulnerable areas, and creating comprehensive relocation plans that protect the rights and livelihoods of displaced communities.
We utilize GIS mapping to identify high-risk zones for climate-induced displacement and develop innovative risk communication strategies that help communities prepare for and respond to potential displacement scenarios.
Planned Relocation
Developing policy frameworks and practical guidelines for planned relocation that consider the rights, livelihoods, and cultural identities of displaced communities.
GIS-Based Tools
Utilizing Geographic Information Systems for risk mapping, spatial analysis, and decision support in climate displacement planning and response.
Risk Communication
Developing innovative risk communication approaches that help communities understand, prepare for, and respond to climate change impacts effectively.
