Announcing the 2026 Global Summer School Cohort: Climate Change and Human Mobility
Published on April 17, 2026
We are thrilled to announce the final selection of participants for the 2026 Global Summer School on Climate Change and Human Mobility.
This year, the organizing committee comprising the HOPE SEA (Humanitarian Observatory for Policy and Education in Southeast Asia) at School of Public Policy at Chiang Mai University (CMU), the Centre of Gender and Forced Displacement at Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), and Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication at Thammasat University (TU) faced an incredibly difficult task. We received over 800 applications from passionate researchers, practitioners, and scholars across the globe.
The depth of expertise and commitment displayed by all applicants underscores the urgency of addressing the "Immobility-Mobility Nexus" in our changing world. After a rigorous review and interview process, we have selected 13 exceptional individuals to join us in Bangkok this May.
Meet the Cohort
Our successful candidates represent a diverse range of disciplines, from atmospheric science to socio-legal policy. They hail from Europe, the UK, the US, Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa, bringing unique perspectives on how climate change impacts livelihoods and displacement.
Program Highlights
From May 4-8, 2026, this cohort will engage in an intensive curriculum designed to bridge the gap between research and policy:
- Advanced Methodology: Mastering causal inference and digital trace data.
- Policy Design: Drafting evidence-based adaptation frameworks.
- Field Research: A dedicated Field Lab in Ayutthaya to study climate-impacted communities firsthand.
